The theme for this piece comes from the works of Oscar Wilde, and the sculpture was created to support the theatrical production of Wilde’s “Lady Windermere’s Fan”.

Although a departure from my other work, it presents a joyful diversion for me. The character, Mrs. Erlynne, is a lady of questionable reputation in Edwardian society, and a lady of many secrets. The play revolves around the careless placing of a fan, a mother’s love, and a great deal of tongue-in-cheek humour. Mrs. Erlynne doesn’t take herself too seriously, and is here depicted in an embellished bow — disdaining Victorian social rules and manners. The fan, a central focus in the play, is “Wilde-ly” exaggerated — in size in the sculpture — in mock reflection of its prominence in the play.
